Wendy Butler is currently a year one teacher at Hilliard State School.  She has been teaching in lower primary for over eight years.  Wendy has always had a passion for ICT inclusion, beginning with university study of ways of utilising computers to enhance teaching and learning opportunities, through to obtaining her ICT Pedagogical Licence last year.  She is considered an ICT leader within her school community having presented at both a school and district level.

A sequence for teaching measurement in early childhood  Steven Nisbet

This session is a presentation of a general sequence for teaching measurement for early childhood (P-3), and its application to teaching the measurement of length, mass, volume, capacity and area. The importance of perceptual and comparative experiences in the early grades will be highlighted.

Dr Steven Nisbet is senior lecturer in mathematics education at Griffith University, Mt Gravatt Campus.

Title: Mathematical Inquiry in an Early Childhood class.  Debra McPhee
This  session will look at how mathematical inquiry can develop complex mathematical thinking in young children where there is an authentic and challenging context.

Debra McPhee -  Classroom teacher at Jindalee State School.

Stepping it Out  Sue Allmond

Participants will be introduced to a variety of tried and tested measurement activities using student’s footprints. These classroom activities will assist them to address not only the Knowledge and Understanding involved in measurement but also the Ways of Working

Sue Allmond Classroom teacher at Jindalee State School.

Books Measure Up  Jill Wells

Literature can be used as an engaging stimulus to develop children’s understandings and communication of measurement concepts.  Participants will look at how children’s picture books can be used to develop meaningful measurement activities

Jill Wells Classroom teacher at Jindalee State School.
